SAN DIEGO, Apr 03, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Novatel Wireless, Inc. (Nasdaq:NVTL), a leading provider of wireless broadband access solutions, today announced it has developed the Merlin 720 PC Card and the Expedite 720 Mini Card, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO (Evolution Data Optimized) Revision A (Rev A) wireless broadband modems, to support future global CDMA network upgrades.
Novatel Wireless' second generation EV-DO PC Card and embedded modems will enable downlink speeds up to 3.1Mbps (Megabits per second), and uplink up to 1.8Mbps. This is approximately eleven times faster uplink than the currently deployed EV-DO networks. In addition, the PC Card and the embedded module are designed to support receive diversity at both 800/1900MHz bands, maximizing radio frequency (RF) receive sensitivity, allowing users to take advantage of the higher speeds.
Wireless broadband customers will be able to surf the Internet and connect remotely to their home or office virtual private networks faster. Road warriors will send and receive email attachments including large multimedia files, graphics and presentations, at record speeds. This will further increase productivity for mobile professionals who depend on reliable and fast 3G (third generation) network connections while on the go.
Novatel Wireless and Sprint will demo the new Merlin 720 PC Card at Sprint's booth 1439 during this year's CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"The development of our Rev A solutions confirms Novatel Wireless' leadership in the CDMA space," said Peter Leparulo, chief executive officer for Novatel Wireless. "We expect to make our devices commercially available worldwide in Q3, 2006. The products' cutting-edge design and performance make them great solutions for both enterprise and consumer users."
